Choose the right moment
Avoid cleaning windows in direct sunlight. The heat dries the solution before you can wipe it, which leaves streaks. An overcast day or a time when the windows are in the shade is ideal.
Make an eco-friendly solution
Mix one part white vinegar with one part warm water in a spray bottle. For very dirty glass, add a few drops of mild dish soap. It is inexpensive, effective and free of harsh chemicals.
Use the right technique
- Dust the frame and sill first, so dirt does not run onto the clean glass.
- Spray the glass generously.
- Use a squeegee in an S-shaped motion from top to bottom, wiping the blade after each pass.
- Finish the edges with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth.
- Wipe one side horizontally and the other side vertically, so you can tell which side any remaining streak is on.

Don’t forget the details
Vacuum the window tracks, wipe them with a damp cloth and wash the screens with soapy water a few times a year. In winter, keep an eye on condensation and wipe it off to prevent mould around the frames.
